FCP Year 2 | New Year Means New Briefs

If you didn't know already, I am studying Fashion Communication and Promotion at Nottingham Trent University. First year was a bit of a struggle for me as I didn't enjoy every aspect, but I am hoping that second year will be a lot more smooth sailing. From the sound of things, it seems like this year is set to be more creative, and since I prefer a more hands on learning experience I am looking forward to it!

We have already been given our 3 briefs for this term. These are:

- Self Promotion Brief
- Reflective Journal Brief
- Identity Brief

1) Self Promotion
For the self promotion brief, we will complete various activities based around building ourselves as brands, in order to prepare us for industry. We will learn how to create professional looking CV's as well as business cards. Since we are well into our degrees, I think that this will be really useful for us as we will be able to market ourselves properly.

2) Reflective Journal Brief
This brief was created in order to help us document our time on the course more effectively. Last year, we just made comments on the material that we were learning in our sketchbooks. However, this year, we have to create a separate physical document (notebook, sketchbook etc)specifically to reflect on information that interests us on the course. In addition to this, we can further develop topics that are discussed in sessions and document this research.

3) Identity Brief
In this brief, we will be exploring the connection between fashion and identity. "Fashion is not just about clothes; it exists at the intersection of (sub)culture and self-expression. Ultimately, it is about identity." Different brands within fashion use culture, subculture and counterculture in order to define themselves and their brand in order to appeal and stand out to consumers. Using culture adds weight and significance to brands.

So these are the three briefs that we are focusing on for this term. I will make sure to post regularly with updates of the work I am doing, as well as interesting research.

Thanks for reading.
