So Scandalous | Kendall and Kylie 'Vintage' T-shirt Line

The Kardashian/Jenner sisters are known for being culture vultures but this was a step too far. We are used to seeing them profiting off of black culture and rebranding it as if it were their own and a ‘new trend’, and their new line of t-shirts is another example of this. The Jenners, Kendall and Kylie were branded 'disgusting' and 'disrespectful' after the release of their new t-shirt collection which features their faces plastered over the top of images of legendary musicians such as Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur.

Not only did they have the nerve to think that they could use images of these icons as a background image for their new tshirts, they didn't even have legal permission to do this. This has resulted in a lawsuit against the Jenners by the photographer who took the images of Tupac Shakur. The photographer, Michael Miller has registered his images at the U.S office of copyright and because of this, he could be owed $150,000 per photograph for statutory damages.  In his lawsuit he accused the reality TV stars that they are ‘exploiting’ his work and the artists.

Disgusting And Incentive T-shirts

Biggies mother, Voletta Wallace saw the posts that the Jenners put on Instagram and she was at a loss for words.  Volletta herself took to Instagram to write:

“I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this,” Wallace’s post read. “The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my son Christopher to sell a T-shirt. This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!”

The t-shirt line has now been discontinued due to unforeseen amounts of backlash. Kylie and Kendall clearly don't understand the history and weight that these artists carry within the music industry and the amount of people they have inspired.  This is clearly shown by the fact that they called their t-shirts ‘vintage’ because all the sisters view the artist as is old news.

Not only did Kylie and Kendall use pictures of Biggie and Tupac, they also  exploited the likes of Black Sabbath, and Sharon Osbourne had a lot to say about this. The wife of Black Sabbaths lead singer Ozzy Osbourne took to twitter and said that the sisters have proved how ignorant they are and that “the girls should stick to what they know… lipgloss.”

Overall, I think the backlash that Kylie and Kendall received was needed as they need to be aware that the amount they profit of not only black culture but other cultures in general is wrong and needs to be cancelled, like their t-shirt line.

Thanks for reading.
