It's that time of year again for the MTV VMAs. The show most definitely continues to shock and excite us each and every year. From jam packed performances to controversial acceptance speeches, the VMAs never fails to disappoint. Whilst the music is the most important part of the awards, the red carpet (or blue carpet in this years case) is just as important.
Unlike black tie award shows such as the Grammys and Oscars, on the VMAs red carpet celebrities are dressed in a variety of different outfits, from long evening gowns to sweatsuits. This carpet allows celebs to be a lot more experimental with their outfit meaning that us as viewers truly get to see our favourite celebs individual style. Since the carpet is my favourite part of the event, I decided to pick 3 of the best dressed celebrities from the event.
1) Teyana Taylor Throwback

The 90's is most definitely my favourite era, from the music to the fashion. Janet Jackson happens to be an artist that I listen to regularly and admire, therefore when I saw Teyana Taylor's VMAs outfit I was completely in awe. She embodied Janet Jacksons 1995 VMAs look perfectly. Teyana has an amazing sense of style and takes a lot of inspiration from the 90s. So even though I assumed she would be wearing something from this era, I didn't expect this. She wore a simplistic white tight fit t-shirt with the slogan 'Underrated 7'printed on the back (similar to Janet Jacksons ‘Pervert’ print on the back of her t-shirt worn at the 1995 VMAs), paired with some high waisted long black pants for an effortlessly classic look. Despite the fact that the outfit was basic, Teyana pulled off this look flawlessly and proved that accessories aren't always necessary for a statement look.

2) Lorde Loves Lavender

The next outfit that I was mesmerised by was worn by none other than Lorde. Personally, I think that Lorde has a true sense of individuality and you can tell that she has a lot of input into the outfits that she wears to award shows and you can see her personality shine through them. Usually Lorde tends to lean more towards the androgynous side of fashion, as we are used to seeing her with masculine styling and a lot of darker colours. However, Lorde did something completely unexpected and stunned in a bold feathered Monique Lhullier gown. I think that the colour compliments Lorde’s fair skin tone perfectly as it provides just the right amount of colour without washing her out. In addition to this, I like how the top of the dress is completely plain and all of the detail is concentrated on the bottom which provides a perfect balance, helping her to achieve an effortless etherial look.

3) Bretman Rock, Rocks

The next outfit that I have chosen is worn by one of my favourite social media influencers and beauty YouTubers, Bretman Rock. He is known for his outgoing and eccentric personality, as well as his incredible makeup skills. With this in mind, I was definitely excited to see what he was going to pull out the bag and he definitely exceeded my expectations. Bretman’s outfit emulated his personality to a t since it was as extra as ever. As well as this, his outfit was definitely rockstar esque which perfectly fits the music awards. He wore a bold fringed blazer with a statement print from OTT Dubai, black tight fitted pants and black boots. This was accessorised with round frame sunglasses, a black chiffon choker and a silver metal glove. If that wasn’t enough, Bretman went the extra mile and decided to go topless. This unique outfit could only be worn and by Bretman himself and he most certainly rocked the VMAs.
